Read Keywords Through Good Books | This Week: “Energy Security”
Dear Friends,
Hope you are having a great week.
This is China-ASEAN Observation, bringing you the latest hot topics in economy, business, and other related fields in the China-ASEAN region.Established by China International Communications Group (CICG),CHINA-ASEAN OBSERVATION is committed to promoting knowledge sharing and cross-cultural communications between China and ASEAN countries.
Recently, the topic of “energy security” has been prominent in the media. Singapore’s Lianhe Zaobao reported on March 19 that Cambodia is importing more fuel from suppliers in Singapore and Malaysia to make up for supply shortfalls from Vietnam and China, its energy minister said on Wednesday, as the US-Israeli war on Iran squeezes fuel availability globally. The New York Times reported on March 20 that The oil shock from the war in Iran has rippled through much of Southeast Asia, upending lives, straining local economies and increasing public discontent. In line with the theme of energy security, we recommend a reference book that interprets the global energy transition and China’s practices for interested readers.
【Book of the Week】
Book Title: CHINA AND GLOBAL ENERGY SECURITY
Author: Liu Qiang
Publication Date: July 2020
Publisher: China Intercontinental Press
【About the Book】
On several occasions since 2016, Chinese President Xi stressed the importance of China’s active participation in the international efforts to reform the system of global governance. Written by a group of prominent Chinese scholars and officials, the China and Global Governance Series aims to present the international readers with China’s approach to global governance and the Chinese wisdom behind it. In the ten titles forming this series, the authors elaborate on China’s perspectives on global governance, peace, and development, as well as seven other important aspects of global governance—financial security, energy security, climate change management, foreign aid, cybersecurity, human rights protection, and anti-terrorism. In China and Global Energy Security, the author argues that in the context of economic globalization, energy security is not an issue facing one single country alone but rather a global problem. China is the world’s largest energy producer and consumer, oil importer, and emitter of greenhouse gases; its energy policy and energy security have a worldwide impact. The abundant experience accumulated by China over the past years in improving global energy security, promoting cleaner energy, and mitigating global climate change will have significant implications for the rest of the world.
